Comex 2014 opens today Aug 28, with the usual lots of IT and consumer tech products, and yes, the usual credit card booths. It is at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre and NOT at Expo, just in case you get lost. The usual smartphones, tablets, laptops, speakers, blah blah blah are on discounts but you should check out the price list first to see if it is worth heading down. Some gadgets aren’t exactly priced that cheap.
Date: 28 August 2014 – 31 August 2014
Time: 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Venue: Suntec Singapore Level 4 & 6

If you do go down, don’t forget to head to the Google Booth to check out the Google Glass demo. This has to be one of the coolest but non-attainable wearable in the market now. Apparently you can take pictures and videos with the Glass, and it might just be the perfect tool for taking photos of the many booth babes around. The Google Glass will be exhibited at the Tech Showcase on Level 4.
This year might be a little less crowded, as the three main telcos in Singapore are skipping the event. Instead they are taking the promotion online and to their own retail outlets. Good move all around! MyRepublic is still at Comex though, and offers their ultra-fast 1Gbps broadband at $49.99 alongside a free Samsung Tab 3 or a Redmi (likely not 1S).
It is also interesting to see service startups such as AirBNB exhibiting at IT Exhibitions. It might be a good move too as it exposes them to a large target audience. Perhaps next year we will see folks such as Uber, GrabTaxi etc exhibiting. There’s a pretty decent promotion – sign up for an Airbnb account at COMEX and get a free $50 voucher, and a tote bag too.
As with every IT show / Exhibition / Comex in Singapore, traditionally, computer bazaars have the best deals for the last day, when retailers clear their stock at low, low prices. Especially so for laptops and harddisks, they tend to be slashed as they compete head to head with other brand retailers. For laptops, they may throw in other freebies such as RAM upgrade so it might be worth to wait till the last day. But good deals see the risk of selling out early so might be good to check HWZ for updates.
