LifeTrak ZOOM HRV: A Heart Rate Variability Monitor

The LifeTrak Zoom HRV is a Heart Rate Variability Monitor, which is quite a rare capability.

_From Wikipedia: Heart rate variability (HRV) is the physiological phenomenon of variation in the time interval between heartbeats. It is measured by the variation in the beat-to-beat interval.
Other terms used include: “cycle length variability”, “RR variability” (where R is a point corresponding to the peak of the QRS complex of the ECG wave; and RR is the interval between successive Rs), and “heart period variability”.

Methods used to detect beats include: ECG, blood pressure, ballistocardiograms,[1][2] and the pulse wave signal derived from a photoplethysmograph (PPG). ECG is considered superior because it provides a clear waveform, which makes it easier to exclude heartbeats not originating in the sinoatrial node. The term “NN” is used in place of RR to emphasize the fact that the processed beats are “normal” beats._

Well, HRV is the variation in intervals between heartbeats. And you can now use your HRV data to train better. You’ll know when your body is ready to push harder and when it needs to recover. Fitbit does boast something similar on the Charge 2 but there could be subtle differences in implementation.

The LifeTrak Zoom isn’t the prettiest of wearables but for the sports fan, it can optically stream continuous heart rate data, even when under water – even helping you count laps.

With the push of a button, the LifeTrak ZoomHRV™ continuously measures your heart rate and heart rate variability (HRV) with extraordinary accuracy and precision. It automatically detects your body’s readiness to train and tells you how hard to push. Additionally, it tracks every move you make, every calorie you burn, and minute you sleep.

The ZOOM HRV™ can:
Optically streams continuous heart rate data on land and under water
Measures HRV instantly, monitors all physical movements
Auto-detects sleep
Calculates calories burned based on heart rate intensity
Manages ambient light exposure
Counts laps in the pool

ZOOM HRV™ automatically detects HRV during periods of deep sleep to provide an ongoing highly personal wellness assessment. This data is combined with sleep analysis, streaming heart rate feedback and activity measurements to create a single, comprehensive fitness grade called VScore™.

It can also measure HRV at any time to provide an immediate HRV assessment called VScan™.

Both VScan™ and VScore™ are tracked over time to monitor increases and decreases in physical and emotional wellness.

The ZOOM HRV™ can be worn on multiple body locations, is fully water resistant to 50 meters and provides continuous biofeedback on a single charge for up to 5 days.
