Are you excited about the Pixel 2?

For the first time ever, the Google Pixel 2 XL will be available officially in Singapore, in an exclusive tie up with Singtel. Now, the latest made by Google Pixel 2 XL will not just offer the latest Android 8.0 Oreo, but also guaranteed software updates for 3 years (Android P, Q, R?). It’s not just the software, the hardware is definitely top notch, with significant camera improvements and hardware computing power.

There’s also the gimmicky stuff – such as the squeezable side frames – which by default will bring you Google Assistant. Since you most probably will communicate with Google Assistant with your voice, I wonder is there really a need for the squeeze action – “_Ok Google~” has been working fine to date.

There’s Google Lens and unlimited high resolution Photos cloud backup – at least till 2020. “Free, unlimited original-quality storage for photos and videos taken with Pixel through the end of 2020, and free, unlimited high-quality storage for photos taken with Pixel afterwards.”

After 2020, you won’t be able to upload originals any longer, and you’ll save high-quality versions of photos and clips instead. But Google won’t downgrade the quality of the images you save until 2020, meaning that whatever you’ve got in the cloud stays there unless you remove it. With the new 12.2MP rear camera with dual-pixel autofocus and f/1.8 lens. it’s a great phone to be trigger happy. Unlike other phones, the Pixel 2 XL does not have dual lens, but powered by dual pixel autofocus, there’s the bokeh like portrait effect, which has grown in popularity.

It’s rather disappointing that Google is only tying up with Singtel for the Pixel 2 XL. It is a cautious, measured approach, but could limit the overall demand. The phone will be available on 15th November, and Singtel would be only offering the 64GB version, in the two colour options (just black, and black and white).

Mr Yuen Kuan Moon, Chief Executive Officer, Consumer Singapore, Singtel, said, “We’re excited to bring the Pixel 2 XL to Singapore. It is a device that many Android fans here have been eagerly waiting for, and we are sure they will be amazed by its innovative features. With our extensive 4G network speeds and new Combo plans, coupled with our unlimited data options, customers will enjoy the optimal Google Pixel 2 XL experience – they can take and upload as many selfies as they want and ask Google Assistant endless questions!”

Well, if you are looking for a new flagship phone, the Pixel 2 XL should definitely be one of the top few for considerations. It is the phone to beat, currently. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kw9olS9DJQA
