Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G will be available in Singapore

The Redmi Note 4G will be available in Singapore, starting from 18 November 2014. With LTE support, 5.5″ IPS display, 802.11ac, Snapdragon 400 quad-core 1.6GHz processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB Flash ROM, 13MP rear camera and 3100 mAh high capacity battery, the Redmi Note 4G will be retailing from S$229 through Xiaomi’s website on 18 Nov, lunchtime sale.

The Redmi Note 4G would cost $30 more than the original Redmi Note, with a few other differences besides the 4G chipset. It would replace the eight-core MediaTek chip (MT6592) 1.7GHz on the original Redmi Note with a mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip quad-core 1.6GHz and also lose dual SIM functionality. The Redmi Note 4G is slightly lighter at 189g and would also support WiFi AC or the 5GHz band. Lastly, it would be running a MIUI variant based off Android KitKat.

If you are a benchmark junkie, the Redmi Note 4G with the Snapdragon would score around the 21-22k range for ANTUTU, which would actually pit it slower than the Redmi Note 3G. The original Redmi Note scores around 28K. That highlights the might of the MT6592 chipset, an octa-core processor that can operate all 8 cores simultaneously for the most demanding tasks (e.g. gaming) or use just one core for lightweight tasks (e.g. active standby).

The Redmi Note has been a popular seller in Singapore and if you don’t require the dual sim functionality, $229 is a great price for a 4G, relatively low cost, moderate spec, big screen phone. However, don’t overlook the original Redmi Note (3G), which remains an equally attractive option. Especially since data plans are limited and you may not require 4G connectivity all the time.
