LG G5 and Samsung Galaxy S7 Annoucement on 21 Feb

Not prepared to let Samsung have all the media attention for their Galaxy S7 as the first 2016 flagship phone roll out, LG has also issued invitations for their unveiling of the LG G5. The two Korean giants go head to head to unveil their respective models early this year.

This is great. Since there has been a dearth of new smart phone models and I am also holding out for the 2016 models to be released to consider upgrading.

The Samsung Galaxy S7 has been leaked, with both front and rear renders leaked through @evleaks, which has been a highly reputable source of leaks. The Galaxy S7 is expected to come with a 5.5 inch screen this time, with similar glass backing to the Galaxy S6.

The LG G5 is expected to reduce screen size to 5.3″,and there’s a possibility that the dual screen from the V10 (which was quite well received) would make its way into the G5. The leather backing from the G4 seems to have been dropped. In 2015, LG was one of the few manufacturer to offer a removable battery and SD card expansion, it will be interesting to see if LG continues to offer this flexibility in 2016.

While the G4 dropped the Snapdragon 810 due to complaints of overheating and performance issues, it is likely that the G5 will be using the Snapdragon 820, which will be the same as the Samsung Galaxy S7, at least for the international variant.

Camera will be a key element in this battle, as majority of people are using their phones as the primary shooters. LG looks to be going down a dual lens format, which offers unique features, but to me, what’s important would be the raw image quality.
