Review: ErgoSilver Laptop Stand
If you are hunched over a laptop now, you may want to consider getting a laptop stand. For all its convenience, laptops are also an excellent way to give you back, shoulder and neck aches. A laptop stand improves the ergonomics significantly, and there are a whole bunch of other laptop stand benefits as well.
Laptopstand.sg has a number of laptop stands for you to check out. Top of the list is the ErgoSilver which props up your laptop to a comfortable viewing height, while cooling it at the same time and allows you to use an external keyboard / mouse with ease. They send me the ErgoSilver for review, which I think borrows quite significantly the looks from the more established Rain Design mStand.
The ErgoSilver is a fixed height laptop stand, and is a thick, solid chunk of aluminium alloy. It’s angled in such a way that your laptop is propped up at a ideal height for you to see when working. You should use the ErgoSilver with an external keyboard / mouse though unless you are working from a low height table. It is definitely not portable, but I appreciate the sturdiness when using it on my desk. The large base and the rubber pads on the resting surface ensure maximum stability for the stand and your notebook on it. One thing, the elevation is not height adjustable, but it propped up my 15″ laptop to eye level (about 1 inch below my gaze) which is in the ideal range ergonomically. In my case, the prop up height was around 7 inches. There’s a hole at the back to help you organise your wires and also a rubber grommet around the hole to minimise wire chaffing. The hole is about an inch wide, which is a little small.
The aluminium finish would fit nicely on most tables. The Aluminium is Silver Anodized and Sandblasted to produce the smooth, sleek design. There’s a bit of a shine to the finish while I think the Macbook has a little more matte finish to it. Anyway, I don’t even use a Macbook, I am using a black laptop here and I think it still goes great with the ErgoSilver. Finishing is always a concern for such metal based products but the unit here was pretty good, with smooth edges and well secured pads.
I guess if you are looking for a budget option, you can even DIY your own laptop stand, I mean even a bunch of books would suffice in a pinch, but hey, I think the look of a desk is important.
The ErgoSilver retails for $49.90 from LaptopStand.sg, which I find rather reasonable. Other similar Rain Design inspired laptop stands sell for around US$40 too. The ErgoSilver does its required function well, and is more than capable to add a class of sophistication to your desk.
