How to: Rooting the MK808

The MK808 is a great little pocket android computer for US$65. It has decent specifications (a dual core RK3066 Cortex A9, 1 gb RAM, Jelly Bean 4.1.1) and has a mini HDMI for you to connect to your TV. Read more from our MK808 review here. If you wish to root your MK808, and install apps like Titanium Backup, I have listed the instructions here.

Enable ADB for the MK808

  1. Install Launcher Pro.
  2. Create a shortcut on the home screen that points to Development Settings – Shortcuts->Activities->Settings->Development.
  3. Click on the shortcut and enable USB debugging
  4. Install ADB drivers on your computer
  5. Download and Install moborobo
  6. Download and Install SuperOneClick
  7. Run TPSparkyRoot.bat
  8. Follow on-screen instructions
  9. Now that your device is rooted, install SuperSU or Superuser from Google Play Store

Advantages of rooting is to gain access to files, folders, and settings that wouldn’t otherwise be available. This lets you do useful and nifty things like creating detailed backups of all your system data as well as apps (Titanium BackUp). You can also gain access to custom ROMs and applications after installing ClockworkMod Recovery. Lastly, one of the more useful thing is to apply a Google Play Store fix so that you can access all the apps in Google’s app store.

  3. Hi Kaer,
thanks a lot for your answer and your Link, I’m wondering to ask you another question about MK808.

Did you try to use the MK808 with a webcamera ? it works? also skype works? which camera did you used?

I sent you this question because with the “old Mk802” there was a “procedure” in order to get several camera working with the device. (http://www.squidoo.com/mk802-skype-usb-webcam)
