Samsung Galaxy S IV Launch Event & Release Date News

At 7PM today New York City saw the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4 or S IV for the Roman numeral fan. The new Galaxy S4 has been keenly anticipated and Samsung wow-ed audience today with a show and more. At a flashy event at Radio City Music Hall on Thursday, Samsung touted a number of new software features for the Galaxy S4. Samsung ended last year with a leading 30.3% share of the world-wide smartphone market, up from 19% at the end of 2011. What will 2013 bring?

The first keynote speaker didn’t had the charisma nor presence to carry the phone and the initial announcement was a little lackluster and nothing more than a product description. Of which, the rumours and even the leaked photos leading up to the launch this far have been pretty accurate. Thankfully, the show did improve after the first speaker.

Samsung Galaxy SIV Specifications

5 inch full HD amoled screen
Exa Octa 8 core processor
2GB RAM
13 inch megapixel rear cam
4G LTE
Slim, only 7.2mm and 130g
Expandable memory with MicroSD Slot

It’s slim and sleek phone, but the interesting thing here would be the processor. Samsung announced the Exynos 5 Octa back in January at CES and said at the time it provides twice the 3D performance of any previous mobile processor, including the company’s own Exynos 4 Quad, and presumably the iPhone 5’s A6 chip, too. We’ve yet to see how the Galaxy S4 performs, but it should be pretty impressive.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 also has a dedicated GPU (graphics processing unit) in the form of a PowerVR SGX 544MP for dealing with intensive games. The GPU is the same used by Apple in the iPhone 5, but Samsung has upped the clock speed from 350 to 533MHz. Looks like 2-0 Samsung vs Apple.

Beyond the hardware specifications, Samsung is very focused on positioning the Galaxy S4 as a lifestyle device. Marketed as Life’s Companion, the S4 is every bit meant to integrate with your lifestyle. And in homage to the launch venue, what better way to do it than through a play on Broadway. Putting together a series of small episodes, Samsung effectively demonstrated the various features of the phone from the dual camera feature to combine shots or video using the front and camera feature, the samsung hub and audio sharing, to travellers using the STranslator for a world with no borders.

Would Samsung succeed?

The fervor and interest for the new phone has been amazing compared to other recent launches and Samsung have positioned itself as the leader and with such a strong focus on the consumer, the phone would continue to garner the same level of attention.

When can you get your hands on the phone? End of April it seems as Samsung is gearing up for a worldwide launch in over 150 countries. Last year long queues were formed when the S3 were launched and I recall the long queues at the Singtel Comcentre and also at the Ang Mo Kio Singtel Hello Shop. It should be no different at M1 or star hub. Pre-order is a must and like us on Facebook to get instant updates when the Pre-order option is available. Not only does it guarantee you phone during the launch week, there are some goodies that come along with for the initial adopter. If you are in the market for a new phone the Samsung Galaxy s IV is one you should seriously consider. The HTC one and Sony Xperia z are both equally good phones as well with their respective strengths, but Samsung has captured the market.
