HTC Butterfly S Available in Singapore End July

Two new HTC Phones were announced today. First was the Desire 600, and the other is the Butterfly S, sort of like a super version of the original HTC Butterfly, and probably so, with the souped up specifications that trumps their current flagship phone, the HTC One.

HTC has announced the HTC Butterfly S. It sports a similar look to the original HTC Butterfly but the internals are now powered by a 1.9 GHz quad-core processor. That’s basically the same processor that is also in the Galaxy S4, and the HTC Butterfly S would also feature the typical HTC suite of HTC BlinkFeed™, HTC Zoe™ and HTC BoomSound™. In addition, if you were concerned about battery life, this new device sports a super stamina battery with 3,200 mAh of raw power, guaranteeing peak performance for longer. With HTC Sense 5 Android version 4.2.2 already launched in other parts of the world and HTC promising to roll it out for the HTC One soon, we will likely see it on the HTC Butterfly S as well.

“We’ve improved the HTC Butterfly by incorporating the new standards set by the HTC One for smartphone performance.” said Jack Yang, President of HTC South Asia. “The popular HTC Butterfly shifted the perceptions people had about smartphones thanks to the world’s first full HD 1080p, 5-inch screen and that complete viewing experience, and with the new improvements in place, we have taken the HTC Butterfly s to the next level creating a smartphone with unparalleled battery performance that also incorporates HTC BlinkFeed. HTC BoomSound and HTC Zoe to give users an extended immersive experience with the HTC Butterfly s unlike any other 5-inch device.”

It comes in 3 unique colours. Also unlike the aluminium case of the HTC One, this phone is wrapped in plastic, but still looks pretty good overall. We specially like the bright red hues on the Butterfly S. To wrap it up, there’s also 4G or LTE (Long Term Evolution) support, plus a microSD card slot to supplement the 16GB of storage onboard.

Strangely, HTC does not consider the S$988 Butterfly S it’s flagship phone – that remains the HTC One, which it has marketed extensively this year. The slimmer and lighter HTC One has a more polished feel and look overall.

So what gives? The camera takes a card from the HTC One, using the UltraPixel technology, which has improved low light performance, at the sacrifice of image resolution. From our HTC One experience, photos at night tend to be quite good. However, one aspect that loses out is that the Butterfly S does not come with Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). That’s a bummer, and I felt that was one of the reason why the One was able to take better night shots too.
