ADATA Premier SP610 SSD Launches in Singapore

ADATA Premier SP610 SSD Launches in Singapore

ADATA announced on December 9, 2014 that it has launched the Premier SP610 2.5” Solid State Drive in Singapore. The ADATA SSD stood out for the price, with the 256GB model and up being priced at less than S$0.60 per GB. With the US exchange rate rising, this could be a worthwhile consideration for those looking to upgrade their computers.

Product Highlights of the ADATA Premier SP610 SSD

The Premier SP610 offers sequential read speeds of up to 560 MB/s. Write speeds are not so straight forward, and varies with the storage capacity model. This is due to the differing die count and results in slower write speeds of 150 MB/s for the 128 GB model, to 290 MB/s for the 256GB model, and finally hitting the maximum 450 MB/s with the 512 GB and 1TB capacity model. This is however, not uncommon across other brands of SSDs. The SP610 uses the Silicon Motion’s SM2246EN controller.

In addition, the ADATA SP610 offers built-in BCH Error Correcting Codes (ECC) (up to 66bit/1KB) to ensure robustness in transfer reliability and help protect data. In addition, compared to traditional drives, the Premier SP610 was reported to consume little power at only 80mW, which could help reduce power consumption and extend battery life for notebooks.

The SP610 comes in the 2.5″ form factor, 7mm thickness. Additionally, the package comes bundled with a 2.5mm spacer and a 3.5” converter to make the Premier SP610 compatible with 9.5mm applications and traditional mechanical drive bays for desktop computers.

Local Warranty Support
One plus point about buying local SSDs are warranty. The warranty period is for 3 years, and provided by the Singapore local distributor. They are located at @100j Pasir Panjang road SUTL HSE #02-00 Singapore 118525.

Price and Availability

The SP610 is available through selected retailers and distributors for the MSRP of SGD 89.00 for 128GB, SGD 149.00 for 256GB and SGD 299.00 for 512GB. That’s pretty good value for cost/GB. SSD prices in Singapore are typically on the higher side and many have explored other options, but sometimes at the risk of warranty support. It’s good to see more manufacturers pushing the retail price now. For now, one place I know locally selling this SSD is on deal.com.sg.
