Mophie Retail Launch in Singapore

Mophie Retail Launch in Singapore

Mophie, which is quite an established iPhone battery case seller in America, announced that their lineup for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Battery cases would be available in Singapore retail outlets this month. The previous range of Mophie products were only available online through Singapore Apple Store.

Mophie products are Apple certified – which is an important thing. You don’t exactly want a low quality unknown battery to surround your phone all the time. The cases at least the black and gold variants are matte finish, and the rubberized case feels really nice in hand. Comfortable to hold, and should hold up pretty well if your phone falls on it’s back. Button protection is also adequate and you have full access to all the ports. Mophie chargers have pogo pin support for dock charging with the optional Juice Pack Dock, similar to the old Blackberry docks.

Mophie Juice Pack

These casings help extend valuable battery life, while extending protection to your device and incorporating an all-in-one design. All of this come at a premium, especially when you consider separate battery packs now cost a fraction of the price. Additional battery power ranges from 2600 mAh to 3300 mAh, which would suffice for a single charge of an iPhone 6. The downside to the product is the fairly high price.

The other mind boggling thing is: iPhone users use lightning cables. If you are a hardcore Apple fan, you may not even have a micro USB cable lying around. Strangely, everything runs through the microUSB port at the base of the Mophie. While it supports pass through, and will charge both your phone and battery pack, it’s a strange design choice. You would need to get more micro USB cables, and also lose the lightning cable advantage of reversibility.

Mophie is distributed in Singapore by Hwee Seng Electronics. The products are retailing in Takshimaya, Elush iStudio, EpiCentre, EpiLife, Infinite, Challenger and Digivue. Prices are $139 for the juice pack air (iPhone 6), S$169 for juice pack plus for iPhone 6 and $139 for the juice pack for iPhone 6 Plus. Comes in three colors to presumably match your iPhone. In celebration of mophie’s launch in Singapore, and their 10th year anniversary, the new range of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus products would be on discount at 10% off, valid from 1 May to 31 May 2015.

There will also be Samsung Galaxy S6 / S6 Edge and LG G4 Mophie cases that would come to Singapore at a later date.

Mophie Powerstation Plus

Other products that are coming to town include a standalone battery pack with built-in cables. If you find lugging around a battery pack with separate microUSB or lightning cables, then this is for you. The battery sports an aluminum casing with anodized satin finish. The top plate is hinged to hide the charge and sync cables within. It can deliver 2.4A and comes in 4 different battery options. Price is again on the high end, range from $119 (Powerstation Plus 2X 3000mAH) to $149 (Powerstation Plus 3X 5000mAH).

If you are looking for the lightning connector version, it’s cheaper on the Apple Store.

Mophie Spacestation

Another product that would be coming to Singapore soon would be the Spacestation, which offers, storage alongside battery power. It provides up to 128GB of external storage, extra battery, and the power to save everything. Leave no file behind, they claimed. If you are holding on to a 16GB variant of the iPhone, storage will be a concern. The last time around when an iPhone update rolled out, I had problems updating the 16GB iPhone 5 without first deleting a number of apps. This Spacestation would allow you to export and backup your photos, videos, documents and music, with the file management Space app. That being said, there are cheaper media storage alternatives for iOS device, without the built in battery function.

While it’s Android compatible, I wouldn’t recommend at all for Android, since there’s microSD support (which is decreasing), or use an OTG thumbdrive.
