Thoughts
In the press release, the HTC One E9+ was lauded as having a slim form factor, and it does shave off thickness of 24% when compared to the OnePlus2. However, the rear camera on the E9+ does protrude quite a fair bit. Means you can’t rest the phone flat on a table.
In addition, the HTC One E9+ does not sport the same metal body or the overall build quality of the flagship One M9. Only the frame and front of the One E9+ is metal. It was good to see that the Singapore launch of the One E9+ would be updated to Android 5.1, as sometimes the worry with the use of the Mediatek platform is Android updates.
Overall, the corresponding price point of $698 isn’t too bad, and would go heads up this weekend against the Sony Xperia M5 (or soon, depending on Sony).
In a quick comparison, the Xperia M5 uses the same Helios X10, same 3GB RAM, but has only 16GB storage, a smaller full HD screen, and single SIM support. The official RRP is $648 and should be available this weekend as well.
As always, there are rumours of a new HTC One A9 (Aero) that is on the horizon, but till then, the HTC One E9+ looks to be decent value.
