The different sized cups, as well as different materials offer a snug, customised fit. There are holders for over or under ear placement to make them even more secure. Audio quality is decent, with good all around sound largely helped by securing an excellent fit. And they are perfect for the gym or for an outdoor run. Other earbuds have a tendency to slip out once your start perspiring but these Jaybirds stay snug in the ears.

Although personally, I find them a tad uncomfortable when worn for over an hour. I am already using the smallest holders and ear plugs. I might have small ears?

The Audio Experience

I’m not able to compare it to the previous version but the ear buds held up nicely against a variety of songs. Bass is good, coupled by the tight, secure fit, especially if you use the Comply tips. I like that the overall response was quite neutral, with the lows, mids, highs not overpowering each other. The Jaybird X2 excels in sound isolation, and when fitted properly, it is able to remove significant portion of background noise, leaving just you and the music.

The bluetooth does skip / drop slightly, not sure if it’s due to a congested bandwidth when stucked on the MRT, but otherwise performance has been quite stable. I noticed that skipping audio become more frequent when the battery is low. That’s also about the same time the Jaybird X2 cues you that the battery level is low. On that note, battery life is rated at 8 hours and it’s true to spec, often able to last a decent 8-9 hours on a stretch.

Features

8 Hour Battery Life

The battery life is rated at 8 hours and it’s true to spec. Typically it lasts me about a week for my daily up / down commute. The charging port is located under the right earbud cap.

Pairable to 8 devices

You can pair it to your mobile phones for commute, to your tablets when you are couch surfing, or to your smart watch (like Sony Smartwatch 3) if that’s what you take with you for jogs.

Sweat-Proof

The earphones are designed for the sports enthusiasts. I had a couple of bluetooth earphones damaged by sweat but this particular pair looks pretty sturdy. Jaybird X2 also a lifetime warranty against sweat.

Super Light and Snug Fit

At only 13.8g, the Jaybird X2 is super lightweight, I won’t even notice it if it’s draped around my neck. The included ear fins allow you to wear the Jaybird X2 both over and under ear, so you can choose your own preferred way. I prefer the over ear, since the cords don’t dangle around your neck.

Verdict

The Jaybird X2 retails for $259 in Singapore, at major retailers, and you can also buy in online from Lazada. Worth it for the sports enthusiast? Mostly. It’s a tad expensive but you get a great pair of sweat proof bluetooth earbuds that stays in place during your workout. While research haven’t show that music during runs boost performance, it does help with the boredom and monotony of running for me!
