HTC One X+ and how it compares against the Samsung S3 LTE

The HTC One X+ has just been announced. It is HTC’s newest Android flagship model. Taking on the same name and looking similar to its predecessor, the HTC One X, what has changed?

Changes as compared to HTC One X

  • Improved Processor -> 1.7GHz Tegra 3 CPU
  • 2100 mA battery
  • 64gb storage
  • Comes with LTE support
  • Android Jelly Bean
  • 1.6 megapixel front facing camera
  • New back cover design
  • Comes only in Black

The One X+ is slated to launch globally this quarter, first launching in Europe and Northern Asia this October, with a November rollout in South Asia to follow. We are anticipating the launch announcement on 2 Nov 12. Stay tuned!

Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE vs HTC One X

The current king of Android phones (the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE) would no doubt be compared to the HTC One X. We have compared the important specifications and differences between the two phones.

Hardware Speed: From a hardware perspective, Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE has a slightly slower processor at 1.4 GHz vs the HTC One X+ 1.7 GHz Tegra 3 processor. It falls short however when it comes to RAM as it has 1GB versus 2GB on the S3.

Camera: Both devices have cameras of 8 megapixels and are able to record video at 1080p. HTC advertised that they are using a custom image processing chip which makes the pictures more vibrant than its rivals. The HTC  One X+ f/2.0 autofocus lens captures 40 – 45 percent more light than the Samsung Galaxy S3 f/2.65 autofocus lens support.

Display: Both smartphones boast large HD displays. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is equipped with a Super AMOLED 4.8-inch screen while the HTC One X carries a 4.7-inch IPS. I personally prefer HTC One X+ screen as it gives off a more realistic colour. The SGS3 tends to give off a bluish tint to the screen. The HTC One X+ screen is brighter and with a higher max brightness setting, allowing it to be better seen in direct sunlight conditions.

HTC One X+ review

The HTC One X+ ranks highly in the comparison versus the SGS3 LTE. The HTC One X+ has all the makings for a great phone but in terms of marketing and support in Singapore, it does loses out somewhat to the Samsung Galaxy S3. However, if HTC can play their cards right, it’s a worthwhile competitor to the top Android device with great specs. We especially like the attention to the multimedia features like better screen, better audio (Beats Audio) and better camera. What’s not so great are the lack of a microSD expansion and a fixed battery. The improvement to the 2100 mA battery would come in handy but we would need to evaluate the actual day performance. The lack of a microSD is probably less important with the inbuilt 64GB storage and 25gb of Dropbox storage.

Pricing Details

We are guessing the recommended retail price for the HTC One X+ without contract would be at S$898 or S$948. This would be the same launch price as the HTC One X in April this year. We would update this page once we have the pricing details from the local Telcos SingTel, StarHub and M1 stores.
