Nexus 7 32gb 3G available just in time for Christmas Shopping

ASUS announced that the Nexus 7 3G 32GB would be available in Singapore today at the launch price of $499.

Available at the typical retail outlets such as Challenger, Courts, Best Denki and Harvey Norman, it comes in just in time for the last burst of Christmas shopping. The Nexus 7 is a popular tablet jointly developed by Asus and Google and the latest version comes with 3G communications, for cellular connection on the go. It is not LTE, but should help provide some needed connection for those who use their Nexus 7 frequently while on the go.

In comparison, the iPad Mini (32gb) with 3G retails at $748. There are a number of reviews comparing between the iPad Mini and the Nexus 7 already. The iPad Mini is the first Apple tablet targeting the 7 inch segment and it was a little unpolished from Apple, with the low resolution screen and the underpowered processor. I feel that it is overpriced too. Perhaps this shortcomings would be addressed in the next version of the iPad Mini. For now, at over 40% cheaper, the Nexus 7 is the smarter choice.

In today’s market, high pixel density—which Apple itself pioneered with the third-generation iPad—is now the norm. Even the cheap, China tablets are also equipped with 1280 x 800 resolution which are significant higher than that of the iPad Mini. After using a display with higher pixel density on my phone for more than two years, I’m not willing to go backward and see all of those pixels on a tablet. The reason well, is simple: I spend a lot of time looking at my tablet’s display.

In US, the Nexus 7 3G retails at US$299 and you could order it and ship it over to Singapore at a lower price through shipping at about S$400, but you would have to deal with the hassle of shipping. In view of this, the Singapore pricing is actually not too bad and especially alongside Christmas promotional shopping, you could snag a couple of vouchers alongside to sweeten the deal.
