Quotidian Pen – Fiddle. Spin. Flick.

The pen built for fiddlers. Quotidian is a world’s first magnetic propulsion pen. I think springs or caps work fine, but I do agree, it’s something quite magical to watch the pen nib propel out when you bring the cap to the body. Each Quotidian contains super strong axially magnetised rare-earth magnets, which sound way cooler than Neodymium magnets, which allows it to function. They are indeed very strong and quite fun to mess around with.

That’s until you lose the cap though – good luck with using your pen after that.

I think the designers grew up fiddling with their pens – the magnetic force does allow you to flick, spin the cap in mesmerising and addictive ways. The overall design seems to be well thought through, so that it will still function great as a pen. Small details like the chamfer step on the pen body should enhance the user experience.

I digress. Check out their Kickstarter project, of which they have raised $43.8K as of this post. They are based in Singapore. Wilmer Tay, Tony and Zifong are the co-founders of QUOTIDIAN. They aim to create something unique, something that is sure to surprise you and something that is most definitely beautiful. Will be interesting to see what else they come up next.
